Creamy Delight: Paneer Butter Masala Recipe

Indulge in the rich and aromatic flavors of Paneer Butter Masala, a popular North Indian dish that combines succulent paneer (Indian cottage cheese) cubes in a creamy and luscious tomato-based gravy. This dish is sure to tantalize your taste buds with its velvety texture and delightful blend of spices.


For Paneer:

  • 250 grams paneer, cubed
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon Kashmiri red chili powder (for color)
  • Salt to taste

For Gravy:

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, pureed
  • 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/2 teaspoon kasuri methi (dried fenugreek leaves)
  • 1/4 cup fresh cream
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish


  1. Heat oil in a pan and lightly fry the paneer cubes until golden brown. Remove the paneer cubes and set aside.
  2. In the same pan, add butter and oil. Saute chopped onions until they turn golden brown.
  3. Add ginger-garlic paste and saute until the raw aroma disappears.
  4. Add tomato puree, turmeric powder, Kashmiri red chili powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, garam masala, kasuri methi, and salt. Cook the masala until the oil starts to separate from the mixture.
  5. Add fresh cream to the masala and mix well. Adjust the consistency of the gravy by adding water if needed.
  6. Add the fried paneer cubes to the gravy. Simmer for a few minutes to allow the flavors to blend together.
  7. Garnish with freshly chopped coriander leaves.
